Backing up tapes ourselves was incredibly cumbersome. Even if they're in a safety deposit box, they're not as safe as they are now with Data Defender which stores backups on both Coasts. Based on our calculations, one day of downtime is tremendously expensive. We had to eliminate the risks of doing backups and storage ourselves. No question it's worth it.
